Synopsis

English

A human being needs at least 1200 calories a day to live. A woman in the middle of an existential crisis confronts her ballet teacher who had forced her, at the age of 13, to restrict her diet to 500 calories a day.

Biography

English

Cristina Spina is an Italian actor, writer and director based in New York City. She started her career as a dancer and actor in Rome, working with top Italian Theater directors, such as Luca Ronconi, Massimo Castri and Carlo Cecchi. Cristina made her American debut when she was chosen by choreographer and director Martha Clarke for a lead role in the play Kaos by Frank Pugliese at the New York Theatre Workshop. In 2013, she studied at NYU Tisch School in their film program’s Sight & Sound Course. She was assistant director on Bette Gordon’s film “The drowning”. For “House of cards”, season 6, she shadowed the director Alik Sakharov. And for “City on a hill”, season 2, she shadowed the director Hagar Ben Hasher. In 2016, she directed her debut short film “So Be It”, which won Best Short Film at the Rome Independent Film Festival. She then wrote and directed “500 Calories” (2020), and she is now developing her first feature film, “Rose is a Rose”.

Inizia la sua carriera a Roma come ballerina e attrice, lavorando con i più importanti registi teatrali italiani, come Luca Ronconi, Massimo Castri e Carlo Cecchi. Cristina debutta in America quando viene scelta dalla coreografa e regista Martha Clarke per un ruolo da protagonista nello spettacolo Kaos di Frank Pugliese al New York Theatre Workshop. Nel 2013, studia alla NYU Tisch School nel corso cinematografico Sight & Sound. È assistente alla regia nel film di Bette Gordon "The drowning". Per "House of Cards", stagione 6, segue il regista Alik Sakharov. E per “City on a hill”, stagione 2, segue il regista Hagar Ben Hasher. Nel 2016 dirige il suo cortometraggio d'esordio “Così sia”, vincitore del premio Miglior Cortometraggio al Rome Independent Film Festival. In seguito scrive e dirige “500 Calories” (2020), e ora sta sviluppando il suo primo lungometraggio, “Rose is a Rose”.
